Ah Brazil, just saying the name of the country makes you picture tropical beaches, clear blue waters and scorching temperatures. The country has around 8,000km of coastline, with sandy beaches and stunning vistas.
It doesn’t have to be a case of what could be, however; there are all kinds of possibilities that allow you to pack up your bags, board a plane and head off to the holiday of a lifetime. The only question you have to ask is which beaches are you going to go to? After all – there are a fair few in Brazil!
To try and make your decision a bit more simple, here are the top five beaches in Brazil that you have to take a stroll on with the sand between your toes, the waves lapping at your ankles, the sun bearing down on you and a cocktail helping you to stay cool!
Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro
One of the most famous beaches in the world, the Copacabana stretches out from Posto Dois to Posto Seis, with historic forts at each end, making it one of the best beaches in Brazil. Along the promenade there are hotels, restaurants and bars, welcoming all tourists looking to experience this amazing four kilometre beach.
Alter do Chão, Para
Located around 30km from the city of Santarem, at the heart of the Amazon, Alter do Chão is very similar to the stereotypical Caribbean beach. However, unlike the Caribbean, you’re not surrounded by beaches and palm trees – similar, but not quite. At Alter do Chão you’re accompanied by the Amazon, meaning trees all around, beautiful, quiet riverside beaches and local fish galore, making it one of the more unique beaches in Brazil.
Praia do Toque, Alagoas
This hidden gem is the epitome of paradise. Hidden away thanks to protection from the reefs and the lack of motorways nearby, Praia do Toque features warm seas, coconut-filled trees, white sandy beaches and traditional Brazilian fishing boats, giving it that desert island feel.
Arpoador, Rio de Janeiro
When the majority of people in Rio head down to the Copacabana, take a minor detour and head on a little further to visit the beach at Arpoador. With a rocky headline, stunning views out to sea and up the mountains, you can walk down wooden steps onto the beautiful sandy beach whenever you like – and the whole beach is lit up, so you can even go for a late-night walk if you wish.
Praia da Fazenda, Sao Paulo
Right between Rio and Sao Paulo is one of the hidden gems of Brazil. With heavy forest all around and coastal mountains providing protection, Praia da Fazenda has a stunning bay with traditional fishing villages all around and a picturesque beach at your toes. Fancy venturing out to sea? There are plenty of dolphins and even whales have been seen close to the shore. This is one of the best beaches in Brazil if you are looking for some laid back vibes and stunning scenery.
