Some travellers pack enough clothes for two weeks for their long weekend trip away, others pack nothing more than a towel and a pair of board shorts in a full sized suit case, realising later that they have forgotten their toiletries. Some pack in five minutes, others take hours. Packing for a trip away can certainly be a tedious exercise. If you’re going on a short four day/three night style vacation, you really don’t need to take a lot. Here are some packing tips to help you on your next short holiday.
Make a list
Have a think about what you really need on your holiday and make a check list. Think about the destination that you are going to. You won’t need to take a thick jacket if you’re going on a beach holiday to Bali. If you’re only going for four days, you only need enough clothes for four days. Make a list of all of the clothes and toiletries that you need. Also include your travel documents in your list, as well as other important items such as your camera. Check off each item on your list as you pack them, that way you won’t forget anything.
What type of luggage do you need?
Before you pack for your trip, consider what type of luggage you will need. Unless you are planning on doing a lot of shopping on your holiday, you probably won’t need a huge suitcase for a short trip away. You can probably get away with a smaller bag, or even some carry on style luggage which might save you some luggage costs on your flight. Samsonite has long been a leader in luggage. One amazing versatile luggage solution is the Samsonite Aspire Xlite Expandable Spinner 29. It is ultra light to save you luggage weight fees, and expandable for more room for your shopping.
Save space and get the most out of your luggage
One of my favourite packing tips is to compact your clothes to make the most of the space in your luggage. Rather than just throwing everything into your suitcase and thinking that you need a larger bag, try out some space saving tips to see if you can fit everything in. Roll up your clothes, stuff your socks into your shoes and use small travel sized toiletries such as shampoo.
Use plastic bags
It can be a great idea to separate your clothes and toiletries into different plastic bags. This will protect your clothes if your shampoo leaks or if your bag somehow gets wet in transit. If you are using a carry on it is also a requirement to have all liquids in sealable plastic bags.
Keep your documents handy
You will need to keep your travel documents fairly handy when you go on your trip, particularly your passport, so remember not to pack them in your suitcase. Keep them in a handy spot such as your handbag or a safe jacket pocket. Also make copies of your important documents such as your passport, plane tickets and travel insurance. Take one copy with you to keep in a separate location, and leave another copy with someone back at home.
I hope that these packing tips have helped you with packing for your short trip away. Remember, pack only what you need, stay safe and most importantly, have a wonderful time!
