Let’s face it: business travel is never just about business. You can’t work 24 hours a day and, if you have the luxury of doing business in a foreign place, you may as well make the most of it. 1. The Beitou Hot Springs
If the pressure of business meetings and jet lag is getting you wound up, you must take a trip to the Beitou Hot Springs to steam away the stress. The beautiful scenery, the historic meaning, and the novelty of a hot outdoor spring will bring you some well-earned downtime from business. Just make sure you shower well before returning to your next business meeting – you don’t want the sulphurous water smell to damage your deals!
2. The Night Markets
Nothing brings on hunger like a business deal in progress. Stave off the hunger pains and embrace the local culture by spending a night wandering through one of Taiwan’s Night Markets. Filled with local trinkets, goods, and food and drink, you can wander throughout the evening and never see the same stall twice. If you’re lucky enough to visit with a local, let them take the lead – trust their knowledge and enjoy the ride.

3. Danshui
After work has concluded, take a trip to the small portside town of Danshui. The sunsets are unbeatable and the local culture will have you enthralled from the moment you step off the train. You can simply enjoy the view and relax over dinner, or, if you’re feeling more energetic, spend some time with a local guide who can show you some of the old Spanish-era buildings and locations.
4. Taipei 101
The towering architectural design of the Taipei 101 is impossible to miss, so follow your eyes to the impressive tower and take an exhilarating elevator ride to the top of the 508m structure for an unbeatable view of the city. Don’t forget to bring your camera so you can show off to your family and friends back home. On your way back down, stop off on the lowest five floors for some shopping in one of Taipei’s upmarket shopping malls.
5. The National Palace Museum
If culture is your passion, take some downtime from the business discussions and spend an afternoon gazing at arguably the world’s finest collection of Chinese art in the National Palace Museum. You may not have time to see everything, but you will certainly come away with a deep appreciation for the amazing location.
